The Middletons were a well-respected family in the small town of Seneca, South Carolina. David was a successful businessman, and Ginger was a devoted wife and mother. They had two children, a son named Matthew and a daughter named Mary.

But beneath the surface of their idyllic life, there were cracks beginning to show. David and Ginger had been having marital problems, and they were both struggling with financial difficulties. In a desperate attempt to save their marriage, they decided to take out a life insurance policy on each other.

Little did they know that this decision would ultimately lead to their deaths.

On June 7, 2010, David and Ginger were found dead in their home. They had been shot multiple times, and their bodies were found in a pool of blood.

The police were baffled by the murders. There were no signs of forced entry, and there was no evidence of a struggle. The only clue was a single gunshot residue particle that was found on the steering wheel of David's car.

The police initially suspected that David had killed Ginger and then turned the gun on himself. But as they investigated further, they began to suspect that someone else was involved.

Their suspicions were confirmed when they discovered that David and Ginger's life insurance policies had been changed just days before their deaths. The beneficiary of the policies was their son, Matthew.

Matthew was arrested and charged with the murders of his parents. He pleaded not guilty, but the evidence against him was overwhelming.

In October 2012, Matthew Middleton was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
